Mechanical Guarding - OSHA 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1)
"Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine
guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the
machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing
nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of machine
guarding methods are barrier guards, two handed tripping devices, electronic
safety devices, etc."

Control Reliability - ANSI B11.19-1990.R1997 E5.5.1
"When required by the performance requirements of the
safeguarding, the device, system or interface shall be designed, constructed,
and installed such that a single component failure within the device, interface
or system shall not prevent normal stopping action from taking place but shall
prevent a successive machine cycle."
